Artist Statement
First, let me say thank you for visiting my site.
Painting has been a lifelong passion for me. I grew up in Chicago and started painting and drawing at a young age. My parents loved art and we became regular visitors at the Chicago Art Institute. After high school I attended the University of Kansas. Two years later I enrolled at the Tyler School of Art in Rome and graduated from Tyler in Philadelphia with a BFA degree. I returned home to Chicago before heading west and on to my next great experience, San Francisco.
I lived and worked in San Francisco, painting and exhibiting for thirty-five years before moving to Canada. My work has gone through many stages. I like to experiment with all kinds of materials and techniques. People often ask me where my inspiration comes from? I feel like my senses are always open to the input of the world around me. It can be something seemingly insignificant to a monumental life shift. Nature plays a big part in my work. I'm always outdoors and have lived near the water my whole life.
How a person responds to a painting is always interesting to me.
I don't like to explain too much about my work. I think that first impressions are important. What they perceive can often be very different from my intent. That’s why painting is the unspoken language for me. Like music, it crosses all boundaries. The color, line, form, texture …how it all comes together is some kind of a magical concoction. I will keep stirring the pot.
